James A. Dabb

SAGOLA, Mich. - James A. Dabb, 74, of Sagola, died Monday, June 5, 2017, at his home.

Jim was born on Jan. 4, 1943, in Iron Mountain, the son of Albert and Rosamond (Van Laanen) Dabb.

Jim graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1961.

He received his associate degree in criminal justice from Gogebic Community College. He worked for the Department of Natural Resources as a conservation officer for many years, retiring in April of 1991. Jim was inspired by a tragic hunting accident many years ago and dedicated much of his career to hunter safety programs.

He married Sharon A. Beaulier on May 27, 1961, in Kingsford. The couple lived in Lansing for many years before returning to this area in 1990.

Jim was a life-member of the Sagola Township Sportsmen Club and the Northwoods Chapter of Safari Club International. He was inducted into the Hunter Education Association Hall of Fame and received the U.P. Community Schools Award.

He was also a member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Sagola.

Jim was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved spending time with family and friends. He and Sharon had spent the last 10 winters in Florida.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon; two sons, Michael J. (Kathy) Dabb, of Ironwood and Kenneth A. (Gerilyn) Dabb, of Norway; two brothers, Lawrence J. (Jeanette) Dabb, of Spread Eagle, Wis., and Robert "Butch" (Kathy) Dabb, of Iron Mountain; four grandchildren William Dabb, Heather Dabb, Brandon Dabb and Ryan Dabb; two great-grandsons, Conor Giesau and Walker Dabb; one great-granddaughter, Lilyane Dabb; and several nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by "the girls," Maxie and Mindi, his beloved dogs.

Friends may call from noon until 1 p.m., Saturday, June 10, 2017, at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain. A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Rev. Ryan Flunker will officiate.

Burial will be in Iron Mountain Cemetery Park.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in his memory.
