Clyde C. Bohn

BATAVIA, Ill. - On June 12, 2017, Clyde C. Bohn, while living at the Holmstad Retirement Community in Batavia, took his final laboring breath after years of chronic illness.

The illnesses that shorted his life were emphysema, COPD and cancer. In the last several months, the family was provided wonderful care through Hospice and Michealsen Health Center. Clyde's family and friends were with him in life's journey and brought great comfort through prayers and thoughts. The greatest blessing was to witness God's transformation of his heart and mind.

Clyde Charles Bohn was born March 1, 1932, to Loretta and Charles C. Bohn in Racine, Wis.

Clyde was preceded in death by his sister, Delores Clifford; and will be missed by his sister, Dolly (Loretta) Cashmore.

Clyde grew up in Zion before the family purchased the Bohn's Grocery and Gas, at the corner of Greenbay and Wadsworth Road in Waukegan, with the family operating until 1973.

Clyde married Jean (Kauppila) Bohn on Feb. 15, 1953.

Clyde will be missed by his wife and children, Claudia (Wayne) Strelow, Teresa Holms, Carl Bohn and Christine (Matthew) TreDenick.

Clyde was preceded in death by his sons, Charles and Cal.

Clyde and Jean are blessed with many grandchildren, Wade, Daniel, Tyler, Sarah, Desiree, Jessica, Emily, Zech, Kayla, Jacob and Becca. Extraordinarily blessed with great grandchildren, Alister, Oliver, Preston, Marshall, Nolan, Porter, Bennett, Walter, Samantha, Miles, Jade and Finley.

Clyde served in the U.S. Army's Artillery at Fort Sill in Oklahoma. Upon his return Clyde worked for Johnson Motors, before spending 40 years in Local Labor Union 152, working for Eric Bolander Construction Co. of Libertyville and the Zion Nuclear Plant.

The family lived in Waukegan and then on Shirley Drive in Gurnee for more than 30 years. Once the children were out of high school, they moved to Kenosha, Wis., for a few years before retiring. The couple retired in 1994 to Lake Gogebic, Mich., (God's Country) living on the lake and enjoying the lovely surroundings. Eventually they ended up as snowbirds going from Michigan to Stuart, Fla., as the seasons permitted.

Clyde's interest as a hobbyist pilot made flying and housing an ultralight plane one of his finest story topics. Clyde loved to discuss his activities in road construction across the state of Illinois and his vast enthusiasm for genealogy.

Public visitation will take place at 9 a.m., followed by a 10 a.m. funeral at Wesley Free Methodist Church in Waukegan, on Saturday, June 17. A luncheon will take place following the event at a nearby location.

Clyde's final resting place will be at Mount Olive Cemetery in Zion. His soul will rest in the hands of the Lord until we join him in Heaven.
