Lloyd Marvin Taeger

WAUSAU, Wis. - Lloyd Marvin Taeger, 80, of Ontonagon, Mich., passed away on June 20, 2017, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

Lloyd was born in Paynesville, Mich., to Larry and Aileen Taeger on Aug. 14, 1936. He attended the Trout Creek schools, graduating in 1955. During his teen years he worked at the Trout Creek IGA, where he learned the fine art of meat cutting.

Following graduation, Lloyd worked as a Merchant Marine, cooking on the ore carrier the Harvester. During the winters, when the boat was docked, he worked as an Ontonagon County Sheriff's deputy.

During this time, he met the former Virginia Skoviak. They married on Aug. 10, 1963, and made their home in Bruce Crossing, Mich. In 1965, they moved to Ontonagon, where he worked as a meat cutter/meat department manager for Fraki's Market and then Pat's Foods until his retirement in 2001. His skills as a meat cutter are well known to many in the Ontonagon area.

Lloyd enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, puttering around in his workshop and listening to polka music. His geese and chickens brought him hours of joy and amusement, as well as his faithful canine companion, Patches. Being a die-hard Finlander, Lloyd's sauna was second to none and not considered "ready" until the temperature gauge was "on the full mark" at over 175 degrees.

Lloyd looked forward to his daily visits with his best friend, Jim Pattison, as they got together to discuss family, current events and "solve the world's problems." He will be remembered for his broad smile, kind heart, awesome sense of humor and most of all his love for his family and friends. He will truly be missed by all who knew him.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, Larry and Aileen; son, Brian; daughter, Kim; brothers, Clifford and Gerald Taeger; and granddaughter, Kimberly Linczeski.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia; children, Kay (Pete) Gorsline, N. Ogden, Utah, Karen Taeger, Ontonagon, and Darrin (PeggyLee) Taeger, Layton, Utah; grandchildren, Ryan and Lauren Gorsline, Alex (Morgan Travis) Taeger, Noah Linczeski, Amanda and Savannah Taeger, Whitney Moore, Alivia Matchett, and Collin and Carter Chisholm; great-grandson, Mayson Moore; siblings, L. Robert (Ruth) Taeger, Norwood, Mass., David (Sharon) Taeger, Camrose, Alberta, Canada, and Jane Wiljanen, Michigamme, Mich .; and an aunt, uncles and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service for Lloyd will take place on July 24, at the Siloa Lutheran Church in Ontonagon with Pastor Jay Welshonse officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon. Memorial service will be from noon to 1 p.m. with a luncheon to follow.

Interment will be at the Agate Cemetery in Agate, Mich., following the luncheon. All family and friends are invited to attend.
