Roy T. Minkin

IRONWOOD, Mich. - Roy T. Minkin, 67, of Ironwood, passed away Tuesday, July 4, 2017, in Ironwood. He was born Sep. 7, 1949, in Ironwood son of the late Lloyd and Ruth (Kilponen) Minkin.

Roy attended the A.L. Norrie Grade School and graduated from the Luther L. Wright High School with the class of 1967. He attended Gogebic Community College where he received an associate degree. He also attended Michigan Technological University in Houghton. Roy received a Bachelor of Science degree in education with an emphasis in math and science from Northland College in Ashland. From Northern Michigan University in Marquette, he received his master's degree.

He taught at the Luther L. Wright High School and was the assistant principal. He was also the principal at the alternative high school in Ironwood and taught in Wisconsin Rapids. He was a swimming instructor at the Ironwood Memorial Building and a member of the Michigan National Guard/Ironwood Armory.

He was a partner in C & R Enterprises with Chuck Kopecko, a buyer and locator for CCS Service, a project manager for Hotel Installation in Washington D.C., and an agent for AFLAC Insurance. Roy was the owner of M-Tree Enterprises.

He was a member of the Gogebic County Road Commission, past president and member of Trout Unlimited, a member of NRA and a lifelong member of the Trinity Lutheran Church. He loved antiques and searching information on the computer. He enjoyed hunting and fly fishing. Roy especially enjoyed his grandchildren.

On April 19, 1973, he was married to the former Dawn Stutz in Ironwood, she preceded him in death on Dec. 1, 1984. On June 26, 1986 he was married to the former Suzanne "Sue" Krietzy in Marquette. She survives. Also surviving are children, Amby Beasley and Jamie (Luis) Nebel both of Edina, Minn .; Heather Lancour of Ironwood and Jared (Amanda) Feltner of Jackson, Mich., grandchildren, Izabella, Tristen, Seth, Landon, Madison, Alycia and Zachery. A sister, Jean (Mark) Sgaggio of Ironwood, also survives.

Besides his parents and first wife Dawn, Roy was preceded in death by a brother, Daniel; his niece, Lisa Jacquart; and two sons-in-law, Lloyd Lancour and George Beasley.

Funeral services will be held at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Ironwood on Saturday, July 8, at 11 a.m. Rev. Kurt Brandon will officiate. Roy's family will receive relatives and friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Saturday. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood. Pallbearers will be Charles Kopecko, George Delimba, Luis Nebel, Danny Mattfield, Jim Edberg and Bob Carli.

A luncheon will follow at the church upon returning from the cemetery.
