Bessemer — A 33-year-old Ironwood Township man was in custody at the Gogebic County Jail for larceny from a motor vehicle.

A township resident called the sheriff’s department on July 24 to report a theft over the previous weekend from his property off Airport Road.

Deputies found the man’s Subaru, parked on a trailer, jacked up and placed on jack stands so the wheels could be removed. The vehicle had clearly been rummaged through as the contents of the glove compartment were on the passenger seat and the vehicle’s own jack was used in the larceny and not returned to its proper position, according to a sheriff’s department report.

Deputies were shown pictures of the tires and wheels by the owner and soon discovered those same items listed for sale on Facebook. The wheels and tires were discovered under the porch at Hautala’s Bar, at the intersection of Lake Road and Airport Road, about 100 yards from the scene of the crime.

Deputies rounded up the suspect, who admitted to entering two other vehicles on the property. They took the 33-year-old man into custody, where he awaited arraignment.

The man is being charged with larceny from a motor vehicle and two charges of breaking and entering a vehicle with intent to steal property.
