Mercer Lions Club holds duck race for fundraiser

MERCER, Wis. - Bob and Ellen Downing, chairman and chairman's helper for the Mercer Lions Club, reported a great crowd showed up for the duck race on Aug. 5 in Mercer.

The Downings said everyone had a really good time and people are already looking forward to next year's race.

The Mercer Duck Race, a fundraiser for Lions International, has grown every year since its inception in 2011. The funds raised have also grown from 2011 to present, starting with $5,785 and growing to $14,199 in 2016. With the fundraiser increasing yearly, the $15,633 raised on Aug. 5 year sets a record and a challenge for next year's event.

The winners and last four finishers of the Duck Race are:

-First Place: Fay Kango. $1,000.

-Second Place: Dan Hanrahan, $500.

-Third Place: Tandy Johnson, $200.

-Fourth Place: Allie Sielicki.

-Fifth Place: Andy Phavo, $50.

-Sixth Place: Ken Linzmeier, $50.

-Seventh Place: Garland Sigrid, $50.

-Four people tied for last and were given $50 boobie prizes: Alice Kraus, Catherine Wilson, Linda Anderson and Robert Hoffmann.

The Mercer Lions Club, chartered in 1950, has multiple fundraisers and service projects throughout the year, resulting in their ability to make both local, state and international donations.
