Ruth Ann Bier

MARYSVILLE, Mich. - Ruth Ann Bier, 90, of St. Clair Township, died Friday, Aug. 11, 2017, at the Blue Water Hospice Home in Marysville.

She was born June 25, 1927, in Ironwood, to the late William and Mary Pollari. She married William Bier on June 10, 1948, in Ironwood. They were married 66 years before his death on Nov. 26, 2014.

Ruth Ann was a Rosie the Riveter, working at the Curtiss-Wright Aircraft facility during World War II. She was active in the community, serving on the Marysville School Board, the Marysville Women's Club, as a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader and was a member of Marysville United Methodist Church for more than 50 years. She was a proud Yooper and loved cross country skiing and being outdoors. She also enjoyed water color painting, reading and gardening.

She is survived by five children, Robert Bier, of Garberville, Calif., Joanne (Michael) Wesch, of Marysville, James (Lea) Bier, of St. Clair, Pati (Michael) Fritz, of St. Helen, and Diane (Craig) Holmes, of Brighton; seven grandchildren, Kristopher (Marie) Rowe, of Indian Trails, N.C., Lisa (Brady) Tieman, of Plainfield, Ill., Matthew (Melissa) Bier, of Stamford, Conn., Tim (Emily) Wesch, of Chicago, Kaylee (Sgt. Ed) Gerrow, of Marysville, Marisa (Brandon) McNamee, of Fort Gratiot, and Alex (Meghan Flynn) Bier, of Tacoma Park, Md .; great-grandchildren, Colin and Brian Tieman, Brendan Rowe, Logan Bier, Rory McNamee, Eva Wesch, Eddie (Alicia) Gerrow, Emily Gerrow, and Parker and Hayden Gerrow; and a sister-in-law, Betty Sodders.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Brian Wesch; a brother, Robert Pollari; a sister, Mary Margret Pollari; and a daughter-in-law, Mary Hoogenveen.

A memorial service will be held at Marysville United Methodist Church in Marysville this fall on a date to be announced.

Inurnment will be in the Riverlawn Cemetery Columbarium in Marysville.

Memorial contributions may be made to Marysville United Methodist Church, the St. Clair County Library Marysville Branch, or the Blue Water Hospice Home.
