Blight clean-up order approved

IRONWOOD — The Ironwood City Commission Monday ordered the removal of blight at 122 Luxmore St. after a public hearing was conducted.

New owners took over the parcel in April, but there has been little change in the status of the blight there, according to code enforcement officer Jason Alonen, who said blight notices from the city have not received a response.

Alonen said scattered debris, tires and an unlicensed vehicle have created an eyesore in that neighborhood.

The resolution passed by the city commission said notices and deadlines were sent out regarding city code violations on March 31, June 7 and Aug. 14.

A neighbor who spoke at the public hearing said she can’t understand how there has been no sewer and water to the place in two years. “It’s a mess,” she concluded.

Commissioners agreed the city’s department of public works employees will address the situation and clean up the property in two weeks. The property owners will then be billed for the clean-up effort.

The blight clean-up resolution was approved 4-0, with commissioner Jim Mildren absent.
