Hurley celebrates end of summertime

HURLEY — Hurley’s salute to the end of the summer and the coming of a new school year kicks off on Saturday morning.

Festival Italiano will feature plenty of music and new events for all ages under the auspices of the Hurley Chamber of Commerce.

A two-mile Dago Dash begins at 8 a.m., raising funds for the Hurley cross country team.

A Human Foosball tournament begins at 10 a.m. and three-on-three basketball play begins at 10 a.m.

There will be a craft show from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., when vendors will be lined up along Silver Street, including offering plenty of food.

A watermelon eating contest kicks off at 4 p.m. in front of the Iron Horse saloon.

The music will include Lake Effect from noon to 2 p.m., Marty’s Goldenaires at 4:30 p.m., Gypsy Road from 6 to 7 p.m. and PM Project 3:13, an REO Speedwagon tribute band, from 8:30 to 10 p.m.

The 50-50 drawing winner will be announced at 9 p.m.

Hurley K-12 School opens for classes on Tuesday and the Hurley Education Foundation will conduct its annual find-raising golf tourney at Eagle Bluff on Sunday, an 18-hole competition.

It’s a two-person scramble format and the course should be in good shape for the annual event. For more information on the tourney, call Eagle Bluff at 561-3522.
