Caroline Mary Kasieta

NEW BADEN, Ill. - Caroline Mary Kasieta, 91, O'Fallon, Ill., formerly a resident of Ironwood, Mich., passed away peacefully Saturday, Sept. 9, 2017, at Clinton Manor Living Center, with loving family by her side.

Caroline was born on Sept. 24, 1925, in Ironwood, the daughter of Sofia (Buraglio) and Bert Incisi.

She graduated from St. Ambrose High School in 1943, and was class salutatorian. She attended St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in Chicago and was employed by Dr. Michael Gertz.

On Sept. 5, 1953, Caroline married Frank J. Kasieta. After marriage, she was a homemaker and did the bookkeeping for Kasieta Forest Products.

Caroline had a generous and gentle nature, always putting others first. She was easy to talk to and was sincerely interested in others. She deeply loved her family, especially her grandchildren. She received the greatest joy in caring for others. She loved her job at Westgate Living Center, where she worked for approximately 20 years, retiring at age 72.

She enjoyed crossword puzzles, bingo, playing cards and other games, preparing delicious food, traveling with her children and the companionship of her dogs, Charlee and then Bella. She was happiest when with her family. She loved Ironwood and her home there. She was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church when living in Ironwood. She will be greatly missed by her family.

Caroline is survived by her daughters, Jeanne Mattila (Mark), Lynn Collom (Mike) and Lori Cherry (Robert); eight grandchildren, Shaun, Kristin (Dave), Danny (Alison), Matthew (Erin), David (Alexa), Nicholas, Aaron and Sophia; five great-grandchildren, Michael Shaun, Andrew, Joseph, Isabelle, and Michael Dennis; and nieces and nephews whom she loved and had fond memories of.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, on May 7, 1985; her parents; a sister, Romilda Costenaro; and six brothers, Sereno, Victor, Archie, Atiglio (Inky), Leo and John Incisi.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, Sept. 19, at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood, with Father Robb Jurkovich as celebrant. Family and friends are invited to gather starting at 10 a.m. until the time of Mass in the St. Joseph Family Room at the church on Tuesday.

Rite of Committal and burial will follow in Sunset Acres Cemetery, Ironwood Township.

Luncheon will be served in the parish hall upon return from the cemetery.

Pallbearers are Shaun Mattila, Danny Collom, Matthew Mattila, David Collom, Nicholas Cherry and Aaron Cherry.
