Ironwood — The Ironwood City Commission on Monday will consider a request to provide a $60,000 loan to repair the roof of the Historic Ironwood Theatre.

Commissioners will discuss the request during their twice monthly regular meeting at the Memorial Building.

The specific request from HIT is to develop or amend a lease agreement to address building roof repairs.

In a Sept. 21 letter to the city, HIT managing director Bruce Greenhill estimates the roof repair project at $100,000.

A $29,505 state grant was announced on Sept. 15 that could be used to finance about 30 percent of the roof repair project. According to the letter, other funds would come as follows: Donations, $13,200; Downtown Ironwood Development Authority commitment, $4,000; and energy incentive rebate, $3,000.

Also listed as costs in the letter are arch mural repairs and painting for $10,000 out of the $100,000 total.

Greenhill wrote that the suggested repayment of the loan would be over five years at $1,000 per month.

“HIT President Tom Williams and I look forward to attending the city commission meeting on Monday to answer any questions commissioners may have,” Greenhill wrote.

The commission will meet at 5:30 p.m., with the theater roof repair project scheduled to be discussed as the first item of new business.
