Marie G. Colosimo

TWO HARBORS, Minn. - Marie G. Colosimo, 84, of Hurley, Wis., died peacefully Friday evening, Sept. 29, 2017, in her sister's home in Two Harbors.

Marie was born Oct. 13, 1932, in Hurley, daughter of the late James Vincent and Celia "Polly"(Kolarchek) Colosimo. She attended St. Mary's Grade School and graduated from J.E. Murphy High School in 1950. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Education from the University of Wisconsin-Superior and taught for seven years in Wausau, one year in Orange County, California, and 27 years in Green Bay. In 1990, Marie returned to Hurley and lived on the family farm with her mother, Polly. From 1991 to 1994, Marie took care of Polly in their home after she had suffered a stroke.

Marie was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley. She enjoyed coffee klatching at the Bonshell Café in Hurley with her friends. Marie loved to shop and travel, and she spent much of her time visiting her siblings and many nieces and nephews. Marie had a very special and unique relationship with each one of her many nieces and nephews.

Marie suffered a stroke in the summer of 2016 and spent the following winter living in Two Harbors with her sister, Gloria. Marie worked tirelessly to regain her independence, and she lived independently this past summer in her own home. Her friend, Willy, picked her up daily and took her to breakfast at the Bonshell Café, which made it possible for Marie to live her life independently as she wanted to.

Surviving are a brother, James Colosimo, Kenosha; sister, Gloria (Steven) Uremovich, Two Harbors; nieces and nephews, Danny (Nancy) Risko, Patty (Tom) Lovely, Steve (Robin) Risko, Steve (Colleen) Mukavitz, Scott (Maria) Mukavitz, Mary Kathryn (Tom) Britenfeld, James Colosimo, Jeffrey Colosimo, Jeannie (David, deceased ) Neu, Joe (Phyllis) Uremovich, Lisa Uremovich, John (Renee) Uremovich, Jaymes (Nadine) Uremovich, Matthew Uremovich and Anna (Tom) Heine; many great nieces and nephews; a godchild, Mary Uremovich; and special friend, Dolores Bjork, Hurley.

Besides her parents, Marie was predeceased by a brother, William Risko, two sisters, Ruth Colosimo and Connie Mukavitz; brother-in-law, Dave Mukavitz;  and sisters-in-law, Joanne Risko and Barbara Olexa Colosimo.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, Oct. 7, at 11 a.m., preceded by a parish rosary service at 9:30 a.m. and visitation at 10 a.m., at St. Mary's Church in Hurley, with Fr. Frank Kordek OFM, celebrant.

Luncheon will follow at the Iron Nugget in downtown Hurley.

Private Rite of Committal and inurnment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hurley, at a later date.

Pallbearers are John, Jaymes and Joe Uremovich, Scott and Steve Mukavitz, and Steve Risko.
