CANDY'S RIGGERS, a team from the Gogebic Range Health Foundation, tries unsuccessfully to recapture the top spot in Gogebic Community College's 18 Legs vs. 18 Wheels truck pull fundraiser Friday. Despite the team's best effort, it was unable to beat Extreme Tool's team, which was able to move the roughly 34,000-pound truck 20 feet in 7.28 seconds to win the competition.

Ironwood - People squared off against a semi truck - as well as each other - at Gogebic Community College Friday, as the college held the 18 Legs vs. 18 Wheels truck pull fundraiser.

Teams of nine used a rope to tow the college's semi truck 20 feet, with the team with the fastest time winning a trophy and bragging rights.

"It's fantastic, we couldn't have a more beautiful fall day to do this - spectacular," organizer Janie Williams said. "I think the people who are pulling are having fun, certainly the people watching are getting their fill of entertainment."

Twelve teams entered the event, with one team paying to compete for a second time.

A team from Extreme Tool won the event, pulling the truck weighing roughly 34,000 pounds the set distance in 7.28 seconds.

The event was a fundraiser for the college's service learning trip to Guatemala in March.

Anyone interested in donating to the trip can make a check out to the GCC Foundation, Williams said, and earmark it, "Trip Scholarship."

Anyone who would like to join the trip can contact Williams at 906-307-1345, or janew@gogebic.edu.
