Ironwood - In what has become something of a local tradition, the Historic Ironwood Theatre will again be screening Warren Miller's latest ski film.
The theater will show Warren's 68th film, "Line of Descent," on Saturday - with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. and the film beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Much like Miller's past films, "Line of Descent" is expected to follow a variety of people around the world as they chase their passions for different types of skiing and other Alpine sports.
"Snowriders are a family - one big tribe comprising of many smaller ones. Familial rites pass down through generations. Skier roots grow deep in high mountain soil," the movie's website reads. "'Line of Descent' celebrates just that, the lineage of legendary athletes through a multi-generational cast of skiing's icons and fresh faces, including Tommy Moe, Jonny Moseley, JT Holmes, Lexi DuPont, Seth Wescott, Kalen Thorien, Marcus Caston, Jeremy Jensen, Griffin Post, and more."
Among the locations listed on the site are Beartooth Pass in Montana, the French Alps and New Zealand.
"This season, we explore how skiers are shaped by picking up a pair of skis for the first time," producer Josh Haskins said on the site. "More often than not, it's family who introduces us to the sport or steers us on the path towards an ongoing passion - be it a ski bum lifestyle, a professional career or simply the desire to pass on the same feeling to the next generation. There is a kinship unlike any other in the ski community, and Warren Miller is the elder, bringing generations of skiers and riders together for 68 years, and this year is no different."
If Saturday's showing is anything like the past two years, the theater will be full with a raucous crowd, excited to kick off the winter ski season with the film.
In addition to being a good time, the film is also a fundraiser for the youth Snow Country Ski Club - which is no longer funded by the Ironwood schools.
"(The fundraiser) pays for lift tickets, transportation, coaching, equipment, hill time - all the expenses," said Dan Tregembo, one of the club organizers, at last year's Warren Miller film.
