KALAMAZOO — A man authorities accused of growing and selling marijuana in the Upper Peninsula was sentenced to federal prison Wednesday.
Spencer Troy Ward was sentenced to 151 months in prison and five years of supervised release after his prison sentence ends for conspiracy to manufacture, distribute and possess with intent to distribute marijuana plants and marijuana.
Online court documents show Ward pleaded guilty to the charge in April.
An indictment against Ward said the operation involved more than 100 marijuana plants and 100 kilograms or more of a mixture containing marijuana.
Online court documents related to the case accuse Ward of growing marijuana on a Bruce Crossing property he owned and selling marijuana at locations in Watersmeet, Iron River and Marquette.
Along with the criminal case against Ward, federal prosecutors were also pursuing forfeiture proceedings for over $400,000 they claim Ward made selling marijuana and properties in Bruce Crossing, Iron River Township and Watersmeet they said were connected to the marijuana operation.
The Daily Globe was unable to obtain the final result of the forfeiture proceedings at press time.
