Woman sentenced for not reporting to jail

December 2, 2017

HURLEY — An Ironwood woman who failed to report to the Iron County Jail to serve a sentence received an additional six-month sentence this week.

Kristen Samierad, 29, entered a no contest plea to the misdemeanor charge and was found guilty by Iron County Judge Patrick Madden, according to court records.

She will be given credit for time already served in jail, to be determined by the Iron County Sheriff’s Department.

Samierad appeared in court with her attorney, Joseph Stephen Hoffman. Iron County District Attorney Matt Tingstad represented the state.

Madden ruled that she must make $3,199 in restitution to the sheriff’s department and was also assessed $243 in court costs.

She was originally charged with spitting on an officer, a felony, but received a deferred prosecution on that charge. She entered a guilty plea to obstructing an officer in a charge that was filed in August of 2016. As part of the deferred prosecution agreement, she was scheduled to serve six months in jail on the charge of obstructing an officer.

A Jan. 2, 2019 hearing is scheduled in court on the deferred prosecution agreement.
