June Watson

HURLEY, Wis. - June Watson, 97, former longtime Ironwood, Mich., resident, died Monday morning, Nov. 27, 2017, at Villa Maria Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hurley.

She was born June 14, 1920, in Ironwood, daughter of the late William and Mary (King) Watson, attended the Oliver School and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1938. She then attended Gogebic Community College for one year.

June worked as a receptionist for Dr. A.C. Gorrilla, M.D., for 12 years and part-time at Stern & Field. She then was employed with the U.S. Forest Service in Ironwood for 21 years, retiring in 1994. She enjoyed bowling in her younger years and handwork. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Ironwood.

Surviving are a great-niece, Stacy (Ross) Smith; great-nephew, Jeff Linton; and two cousins, Jan Akervik and Nancy-Ann (Ron) Stumbo.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by brothers, John and William; sisters, Evelyn, in infancy, and Grace Linton; and a nephew and niece.

Per June's wishes, cremation has taken place.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Dec. 6, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at the McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home in Ironwood, with Pastor Rosemary DeHut and the Rev. Jean Rencontre co-officiating.

Spring committal and inurnment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Wesley United Methodist Church.
