Veronica B. Skolasinski

WAKEFIELD, Mich. - Veronica B. Skolasinski, 99, a long-time resident of Wakefield, passed away peacefully Friday morning, Dec. 29, 2017.

Veronica was born on Dec. 20, 1918, in Ironwood, a daughter of John and Mary (Sentko) Vronch. She attended schools in Ironwood and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School.

On June 29, 1940, Veronica was united in marriage to Edward L. Skolasinski at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Ironwood by the Rev. Carl Petranek. They shared more than 62 wonderful years together and raised two daughters.

She was a faithful member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Wakefield and a supporting member of the Immaculate Conception Women's Guild.

Veronica took great pleasure going to the casino. She was a sports enthusiast, who was a loyal Green Bay Packers fan. She enjoyed watching the New York Yankees and the Detroit Red Wings. Veronica was a talented cook, who exceled at making homemade noodles, a dish that her family will greatly miss.

She was employed in housekeeping at Divine Infant Hospital in Wakefield until its closure.

Veronica is survived by two daughters, Gloria (Ken) Beckley, of Colorado, and Rosemary Salo, Ironwood; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Veronica E. "Verna" Skolasinski, Wakefield; and numerous dear nieces, nephews and friends.

She was predeceased by her parents; her beloved husband, Edward, on Aug. 13, 2002; two daughters, Marlene and Beverly, both in infancy; four brothers, Andrew, John, Isadore and Ben Vronch; and three sisters, Agnes Hiekkanen, Celia DeMario and Marie Erickson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 407 Ascherman St., in Wakefield, with the Rev. Dominic Agyapong celebrant. Also in attendance will be the Immaculate Conception Women's Guild Honor Guard.

Rite of Committal and interment will take place in Lakeside Cemetery, Wakefield, in the spring.

Pallbearers will be Luke Salo, Jared Hallberg, Brady Hallberg, Matt Stein, Robert Linn and Robert DaPra.

The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the caring staff at Gogebic Medical Care Facility in Wakefield, who provided many kindnesses to Veronica and her family.
