WAKEFIELD, Mich. - Donna B. Maki, 87, of Ironwood Township, died peacefully early Tuesday morning, Jan. 9, 2018, at Gogebic Medical Care Facility in Wakefield, with her loving sons by her side.

The former Donna Stimers was born Jan. 12, 1930, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, daughter of the late Lloyd and Mabel (Powell) Stimers. She came to Duluth, Minn., at the age of 3 and to Ironwood at age 7, where she attended Roosevelt School and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1948. She was employed as a switchboard operator for Michigan Bell Telephone Company for one year prior to her marriage to Roland Maki on Aug 5, 1950, at Wesley United Methodist Church in Ironwood. She then worked at Munsingwear, Ironwood Products and Schult Mobile Homes, and operated The Bootery in downtown Ironwood until the business was sold.

Donna was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Ironwood. Her interests included sewing, knitting, crocheting, painting, ceramics and organizing class reunion get-togethers. In earlier years, she and Roland enjoyed square dancing with the Do-Si-Do Square Dance Club and snowmobiling with the Snowdrifters Snowmobile Club.

Surviving are two sons, Jeffrey (Mary), Red Wing, Minn., and Gregory, Ironwood Township; six grandchildren, Lynn (Dave) Hansen, Madison, Wis., Greg (Erin) Maki, Strum, Wis., Katie (Tyler) Visina, Woodbury, Minn., Amy (Tina) Schuette, Traverse City, Aaron (Agatha) Maki, Gahanna, Ohio, and Christopher Maki, Milwaukee; nine great-grandchildren, Katherine, Emily, Claire, Jackson, Cameron, Max, Theo, Francesca and Harrison; sisters-and-brothers-in-law, Marilyn Stimers, Kenosha, Wis., Marlys (Paul) Pozega, Grand Ledge, Judy (Ed) Smith, St. Paul, Minn., and Janet (John) Hellman, Bessemer; and numerous nieces, nephews and a host of dear friends.

In addition to her parents, Donna was preceded in death by her husband, Roland, on April 25, 1994; and brother, Leon Stimers.

Out of respect for her wishes, cremation has taken place.

Private graveside services and interment will be in Sunset Acres Cemetery, Ironwood Township, in the summer.
