Karen (Johnson) Koski

IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich. - Karen (Johnson) Koski, of Iron Mountain, passed away on April 14, 2018, surrounded by her family, after a lengthy illness. She was 74.

Karen was born on July 3, 1943, in Ironwood, to Archie Johnson and Eva (Erspamer) Johnson. She graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in Ironwood in 1961, and received a bachelor of arts degree in education from Northern Michigan University. On Aug. 8, 1964, she married David C. Koski at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Ironwood. They lived in Marine City, before relocating to White Pine in 1967.

Over the years, Karen taught various high school and adult education classes (including day and night) for area school districts. Her final position prior to retirement was as a mental health therapist for Copper Country Mental Health. She was actively involved in the community; she volunteered as a Girl Scouts leader for several years, and was involved with fundraising for the Women's Club, the local cancer society, and school sports booster clubs. She was a member of St. Jude's parish in White Pine. In 2011, she moved to Iron Mountain.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David, on Dec. 30, 2009, as well as her parents, aunts and uncles. She is survived by her children, Kathryn Koski, of Atlanta; Susan Mielcarek (Mark Mielcarek) of Iron Mountain and Robert Koski (Jessica Rolf) of St. Paul; her grandchildren, David and Nicole Mielcarek, Mia Koski and Isabel Cruz; her brother and sister-in-law, Arch and Judy Johnson, Mercer, Wis., and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Susan Koski, Escanaba, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Private funeral services will be held at a later date. The family has chosen the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain, to honor Karen's legacy of life.
