IRONWOOD, Mich. - Brian Thomas Smollar, also known as "Smiley" and "Yipples" to family and friends, 48, of Ironwood, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, April 13, 2018, at his home.

Brian was born on June 1, 1969, in Ironwood to Louis E. and Marilyn (Maradik) Smollar. Brian was a graduate of Luther L. Wright High School Class of 1987 in Ironwood.

He worked as a handyman for local farms and in building construction, as well as HVAC. He also enjoyed driving semi trucks for many years; Halvor Lines, Waste Management and others. He was the kind of man who enjoyed helping his friends and family and if you needed a hand, he was there to help and it was always with a smile. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding snowmobiles, four-wheelers and any other outdoor activity. He loved tinkering around his home and was a former member of a local bass fishing club.

He will be sadly missed by his mother, Marilyn, his former wife, Violet, and his step-daughter, Amber Sandquist, siblings Theresa (Jim) Talaska, Louis J. (Julie) Smollar and Jeff (Randy Lyon) Smollar, two nieces and one nephew: Tanya Isaacson and Alyssa and Jared Smollar, as well as other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Louis E. Smollar.

There will be a gathering to celebrate Brian's life on Thursday, April 19, from 3 to 6 p.m. at The Elk and Hound Restaurant, 200 Country Club Road, in Ironwood.
