May 3, 2018

WAKEFIELD, Mich. – Woodie Gene Ozzello, 56, of Wakefield, went home to be with Jesus on Monday, April 30, 2018.

Woodie was born on April 13, 1962, in Okinawa, Japan, a son of Richard Gene and Anna Jane (Warrick) Ozzello. In 1972, Woodie became a Yooper when the family moved to Wakefield. He graduated from Wakefield High School in 1980.

Woodie worked at the G.E.O. Company and moved to Kansas and later to Ohio. After returning to Wakefield, he worked for Corullo's Sawmill. Several years later, Woodie decided to work for his brother-in-law, Jim Meier, as a carpenter.

Woodie developed diabetes at the age of seven. He was a very strong individual considering everything he went through with his health issues.

Woodie had a smile on his face even on bad days. He was a kind person and always helped anyone who needed assistance.

He loved his children, grandson and family. They were the most important part of his life.

Woodie is survived by his parents, Richard and Anna Jane; a daughter, Lakin Ozzello (Mike Singleton); two sons, Kasey (Jen) Ozzello and Michael Ozzello; a grandson, Trenten; a sister, Vicky (Jim) Meier; a brother, Paul Michael (Lauralee); and three nephews, Jeff, Brian and Emanuel.

He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, James and Ada Ozzello; and his maternal grandparents, Woodie and Nellie Warrick.

A memorial service will be held Friday, May 4, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at Calvary Baptist Church, 1201 Peters St., in Wakefield, with the Rev. Michael Riley officiating.

Lunch will be served at the church fellowship hall following the service.
