Betty L. Kessler

WAKEFIELD, Mich. - Betty L. Kessler, 93, of Ironwood, passed away Saturday, May 12, 2018, in Wakefield.

She was born Feb. 19, 1925, in Wakefield, daughter of the late Alexander Johan and Mary M. (Haukilahti) Harju. Betty attended local schools and worked at the Elks Club as a waitress. She was also employed by Kodiak Corporation, which manufactured fishing rods. Betty was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church and the former St. Ambrose Catholic Church. She enjoyed playing cards and especially enjoyed her grandchildren.

On Nov. 24, 1941, she was united in marriage to Dominic L. Kessler in Detroit. Dominic preceded her in death on Jan. 24, 1998.

Betty is survived by three sons, Joseph (Rosalie) Kessler, of Lake Gogebic, Dominic (Lori) Kessler, of Ironwood, Daniel (Donna) Kessler, of White Pine and a daughter, Christine (Alan) Shebesta, of Milwaukee. Also surviving are grandchildren Dominic Kessler, Amy Kessler, Mary Kessler and Daniel Kessler, great-grandchildren Tyler Niemi and Lilly Kessler and a sister-in-law, Shirley Harju, of Wakefield.

Besides her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by a grandson, Joseph Kessler, and a granddaughter, Christy Kessler, brothers Sam, Fritz, Alec, Alfred, Earl and a sister, Lillian Bacon.

Private family services will be held at the McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home. Father Robb Jurkovich will officiate.

Inurnment will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Ironwood.
