Capt. Patrick James 'PJ' Baker

MONTREAL, Wis. - Capt. Patrick James "PJ" Baker, 80, of Montreal, passed away May 23, 2018.

He was born July 23, 1937, in Rhinelander to Howard and Cynthia (Baldwin) Baker.

Following graduation from Rhinelander High School, he attended the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y., and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in marine transportation.

He then traveled the world as the captain of large ships for many years and served in the U.S. Naval Reserve.

Patrick was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Charlotte Somers, and brother-in-law, Leslie Somers.

He is survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.

He enjoyed reading, spending time with friends, gardening, traveling to Texas and Arkansas and visiting the shores of Lake Superior.

A memorial service for Patrick will be held at the McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home, 305 Lowell St., Ironwood, Mich., on Sunday, June 10, at 1 p.m., with visitation from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
