Ironwood - A disc golf course has recently opened at Norrie Park in Ironwood. The city's parks and recreation committee had approved the design for the disc course earlier this month and the donated baskets from Tom Winsce were delivered this past week.

City volunteers did the installation and golfers have been utilizing the nine-basket course for the past few days.

In disc golf - also called Frisbee Golf or sometimes Frolf - players tee off from a rubber mat and throw the disc towards a chain basket on a pole.

The discs used by the Pro Disc Golf Association are heavier and thinner than the average recreational Frisbee. They are typically 8-9 inches in diameter and weigh between 120 and 180 grams.

Similar to a golfer using various clubs, different weight disc are used as the golfers get closer to the baskets.
