    WAKEFIELD — The city of Wakefield is pleased to be moving forward with an improvement project for the dam at the northeast corner of Sunday Lake, which the city has sought to update for several years. The city was recently awarded a Michigan Department of Natural Resources Dam Management Grant in the amount of $69,300 for the spillway gate replacement.     BESSEMER — The Gogebic-Iron County Paisano Club held its spring dinner Sunday at La Panetteria in Bessemer, celebrating Italian heritage and scholarship funds raised for area high school seniors. Speaking to a crowd gathered for the annual event, chapter president Dorothy Walesewicz said the club was founded in Bessemer on August 6, 1969, making it 44 years old this year.     WAKEFIELD — The Wakefield City Council swore in longtime resident Charles Picoldi Monday, to fill an unexpired term vacated by a resignation. A seat on the council became available when April Rauh resigned her position in March. One application, from Picoldi, was received by the city to fill the vacancy.     HURLEY — The Hurley Lions Club held an annual pancake breakfast Sunday at the Liberty Bell in support of the Hurley K-12 School’s participation in a summer youth camp program.     KIMBALL, Wis. — A benefit dinner drew scores of supporters for Mike Tijan in his fight against multiple myeloma Saturday at the Kimball Community Center. Tijan has been battling the disease for eight years, and is now facing a stem cell transplant. His brother Andy is a blood match. Their sister, Teresa Vitovksy, said Mike has been undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatments to decrease his cancer levels.     IRONWOOD – Gogebic-Iron Marine Corps League Detachment 1133 held a spaghetti dinner Sunday at the Breakwater in Ironwood to benefit the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette and the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King.
