HURLEY — The Gogebic Range Health Foundation recently awarded Iron County Outdoor Recreation Enthusiasts a $20,000 grant to help develop local non-motorized trails in the area. The money will help the group make improvements to the trailhead between the Montreal River and 2nd Avenue/U.S. 51 in Hurley. Hurley, Wis. - Thomas E. "Tom" Popko Jr., 91, of Hurley, passed away Jan. 7, 2020, at Villa Maria Nursing Home in Hurley after a brief illness. Tom was the eldest of nine children, born May 30, 1928, to Thomas Sr. and Anna (Fudaley) Popko at the family home in Oma, Wis. He attended Oma State Grade School and graduated from J. E. IRONWOOD, Mich. — Kathleen (Kapets) Eklund, 74, of Ironwood, passed away Monday, Jan. 6, 2020. Kathleen was born on June 12, 1945, in Ironwood, a daughter of John and Lucille (Piasecki) Kapets.
