  • Thaw breaks record high reading here

    Ralph Ansami|Jan 21, 2017

IRONWOOD — After narrowly missing a record high the day before, a new daily high temperature was set for Ironwood on Friday. For the 24-hour period to 7 a.m. on Friday, the high was a balmy 50 degrees, which broke the old mark of 48 set in 1981. For the 24-hour period to 7 a.m. on Thursday, the high was 46, but that fell short of the 116-year Ironwood record of 47 set in 1981, according to the National Weather Service office in Marquette. Jason Juno|Jan 21, 2017

HURLEY - Hurley scored at Washburn's pace for a half, but they couldn't maintain it for the entire game. And they couldn't stop Trevor Cook. Not that anyone else has been able to either. Cook led the Castle Guards (8-4, 7-3) with 52 points in Friday night's 77-63 Indianhead Conference victory over Hurley (4-9, 4-6). The 6-1 senior didn't get to the hoop all that often, but boy did he put on a shooting clinic, whether from 3 or mid-range, it didn't matter. "We didn't give up a ton of layups to...

  • Samsons win, Lady Samsons fall against new opponent

    Jan 21, 2017

MILWAUKEE — The Samsons pulled out a 71-67 in their first time playing Bryant & Stratton College Friday night. Gogebic led by as many as 11 points in the second half, but Bryant & Stratton came back and tied it. “Good win for us,” GCC coach Dennis Mackey said. “We’ve been trying to find our way of late. Wednesday night, I thought we played well and hit shots. I thought we shot the ball well tonight, with the exception of our free throws (12-29), which really is tough to take.” The Samsons also missed nearly 10 point-blank shots....
