Ice fishing enthusiasts came from across the midwest and beyond to take part and fish with their friends. During the tournament, ice fishing tents were scattered across the body of water. Throughout the weekend, the sounds of snowmobiles could be heard near the trails and in downtown areas. Lance Roffers, of Green Bay, Wis., visited Iron County for the first time. WAKEFIELD, Mich. – Gerald John Wiitanen, fondly known as "Jerry," 76, a lifelong resident of Wakefield, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2016. Jerry was born on Oct. 6, 1939, in Wakefield, a son of Elias and Helmi (Peterson) Wiitanen. He attended Wakefield High School and graduated in 1957.
