  • Faulty transformer led to power outage

    WAKEFIELD - A faulty transformer at Xcel Energy's Ironwood substation led to the 26-hour power outage in parts of Wakefield on Jan. 23-24, according to city manager Margot Anderson. She said Tuesday the transformer that went down has since been replaced by Xcel. Anderson explained why Wakefield was one of the last communities to be completely restored to power.     IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP - With only a few weeks left to finalize the details, one of the American Birkebeiner founders took time to help with another Beiner-themed event on Monday. Ernie St. Germain attended a planning meeting for the annual YooperBeiner snowshoe race/tour at Wolverine Ski Trails to help plan to the timing of the event.     NORTHVILLE, Mich. - Henry R. Tiilika, age 88, of Northville, passed away January 31, 2015. He was born August 3, 1926 in Ironwood; son of Otto and Ellen (nee Justusson) Tiilikka. Henry proudly served in the United States Army during World War II. After serving in the Army, Henry received his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Michigan Tech.
