    HURLEY - Junior James Sukanen made school history on a nostalgic night in Hurley. Sukanen became the eighth Hurley boy to score 1,000 career points as Hurley beat Butternut 62-24 Friday night. That came after Hurley honored the 1949 state champion boys basketball team. Sukanen led all scorers with 19 points and stands at 1,004 for his career.     WAKEFIELD - There's a first time for everything. On Friday night on their home court, the Wakefield-Marenisco girl's basketball team became co-champions of the Indianhead Conference East Division with Hurley with a 58-28 victory over Ironwood. It was the first time a Wakefield-Marenisco team has shared or won a title, since the Cardinals joined the Indianhead in 2011. Both W-M and the Midgets had 13-3 conference records.   • The Cat's Pajamas set to perform at Ontonagon Theater

    EWEN - The Ewen-Trout Creek School music program has enlisted the vocal band, The Cat's Pajamas, to perform at the Ontonagon Theater to raise money for the program. Music director Brad Besonen said fellow teacher Patti Witt told him the group had posted on Facebook about helping high schools. "(Witt) brought to my attention that The Cat's Pajamas had posted an ad on Facebook asking for schools in the Midwest to contact them to bring them in to have a concert in the local areas," Besonen said.... Full story
