Participants could not have asked for better winter weather, as temperatures soared over 50 degrees, with smiles and sun beams competing to offer added warmth.     MERCER Wis. — A 40-year-old Illinois man died early Sunday after the snowmobile he was riding struck a tree, according to an announcement from the Iron County Sheriff’s Office. Iron County Emergency Dispatch received a 911 call at 12:43 a.m. Sunday, from the scene of the snowmobile crash on Trail 10 in the town of Mercer. The caller reported that a snowmobile and rider had gone off the trail and struck a tree. The rider was unresponsive, according to the caller.     BESSEMER, Mich. - Francis "Youser" Tannheimer, 89, of Bessemer, passed away Friday, Feb. 21, 2020, at the Gogebic Medical Care Facility in Wakefield. Francis was born on Aug. 5, 1930, in Bessemer, a son of Jacob and Albertina (Kranzlin) Tannheimer. Francis graduated from Bessemer Area Schools and worked in several local iron ore and copper mines with his last being a foreman at White Pine Copper Mine retiring in 1992.
