  • Donkey basketball raises funds for Ironwood PTO

    IRONWOOD - The Luther L. Wright gymnasium was filled to the rafters Thursday as the school held its first donkey basketball game in almost two decades. The game, which was a fundraiser for the school's parent teacher organization, was inspired by Ironwood PTO President - and Ironwood Area Schools alumnus - Jessica Vaughn's memories of the games from her time in high school.   • Tree knocks out power for Ayer Street residents

    IRONWOOD - Some residents on East Ayer Street lost electricity at approximately 11:30 a.m. Thursday after a tree fell onto power lines. Members of the Ironwood Public Safety Department responded to multiple 911 calls regarding the tree, one of which stated it was on fire.   • GCC hosts Quiz Bowl tournaments

    IRONWOOD - High school students from around the region took over Gogebic Community College Thursday as the college hosted its annual spring invitational Quiz Bowl tournament.     MERRIWEATHER, Mich. — Albert Zanetti, 93, of Merriweather, passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2015, at Marquette General Hospital with his family by his side. Albert was born June 15, 1921, in Montreal, Wis., the oldest child to Richard and Margaret (Grasso) Zanetti.     FEDERAL WAY, Wash. - Ray (Howie) Clifford Hallberg, 61, of Fair Oaks, Calif., passed away due to complications from cancer on March 2, 2015, in the Federal Way home of his mother, Rita Ryan. Ray was born to Ray Hallberg, of Wakefield, Mich., and Rita Ann Ryan, of Ironwood, Mich., on Sept. 9, 1953, in Wakefield.     GREEN BAY, Wis. - Megan Gustafson and the South Shore girls did all they could to dig themselves out of a first-half hole Thursday, but it just wasn't enough.
