    By RICHARD JENKINS [email protected] IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP — It appears construction of the regional trail running between the Montreal River and Sunday Lake in Wakefield will be able to continue after the Ironwood Township Board of Trustees agreed to transfer ownership of a portion of the planned trail to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources Monday.   • Ironwood seeks fencing bids for former mining sinkholes

    By RALPH ANSAMI [email protected] IRONWOOD — The city of Ironwood will seek bids on obtaining safety fencing for three or four former mining sites. City commissioners agreed Monday to seek the bids as part of $21,000 that has been budgeted for safety around the sites, including sinkholes. City Manager Scott Erickson said the money was obtained from the sale of easements to Xcel Energy. Erickson said “key locations” would be targeted.     MELBOURNE, Fla. - John Richard "Bruiser" Gull, 75, passed away on Dec. 19, 2015, after fighting valiantly, at the Avante Center in Melbourne. John was born in Ewen, Mich., on Oct. 21, 1940, to Uno and Katherine Gull. He was an avid Boy Scout who attended and graduated from Ewen High School in 1958. John attended business college in Green Bay, Wis., before joining the U.S. Army in 1961. He was born in Bessemer, Mich., on March 13, 1926, to Joseph Cyrillo and Theresa (Proft) Maccani. He grew up in Bessemer and graduated from A.D. Johnston High School. Born in Ironwood on May 16, 1921, he attended Ironwood Township schools and graduated from Ironwood High School in 1939. In his youth, Bob worked on the family farm (Johnson Truck Farm and Nursery) and was an avid hunter, trapper and fisherman.
