IRONWOOD - Good Samaritan Counseling Centers of the Western UP have released their annual report to the public, according to a press release. In 2013, they provided 1589 hours of counseling, and 672 hours of group meetings and classes to people in Gogebic County and Iron County, according to the press release. ST. CLAIR SHORES (AP) - The crew of a U.S. Coast Guard cutter that rescued a dog from ice on Lake St. Clair is giving the animal an appropriate name: Lucky. Chief Petty Officer Alan Haraf said the 140-foot cutter Bristol Bay was heading Monday to help another vessel stuck in ice when the dog was spotted. DETROIT (AP) - A fire ripped through a Detroit apartment building early Wednesday morning, forcing some adults and children to leap to safety from second- and third-story windows as the flames intensified. Crews using heavy equipment began pulling down what was left of the Jason Manor Apartments walls by late afternoon. IRONWOOD, Mich. - Lorraine Rajala Lehto Hastings, 81, of Ironwood, died March 4, 2014, at Westgate Nursing, Rehabilitation and Assisted Living Community in Ironwood, surrounded by her family. She was born May 2, 1932, in Ironwood, to Henry and Edith Kaiku Rajala. She attended Roosevelt and Luther L. Wright schools in Ironwood. The Ironwood Area Chamber of Commerce is proud of the Ironwood Snowmobile Olympus and the crew that supports it.
