ONTONAGON, Mich. — Anita Mae (Sommer) Anderson of Ontonagon passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 5, 2022, at Westgate Living Center in Ironwood. Anita was born on Aug. 29, 1931, in Ontonagon, to Edward and Almeda (Soder) Sommer. She graduated from Ontonagon High School in 1949. Anita married Francis Edwin “Ed” Anderson on July 5, 1952. They had 10 children. Anita worked for Ontonagon Area Schools as a custodian, then as a library assistant, until her retirement. IRONWOOD, Mich. - Zita Domenica Hannula of Hurley passed away on Dec. 22, 2021. Zita was born on June 20, 1929, in Cary, Wisconsin, the daughter of Joseph De Meio and Mary Novoscone DeMeio. She married George Anderman on June 18, 1949, and he preceded her in death in 1988. She married Lloyd Hannula on Nov. 30, 1996, and he preceded her in death in 2003. WAKEFIELD, Mich. - Dewey L. Morrison, 98, a longtime resident of Wakefield, passed away on Monday, May 2, 2022, at the Gogebic Medical Care Facility in Wakefield. Dewey was born on Sept. 13, 1923, in Tula, a son of Henry and Esther (Hick) Morrison. He attended Wakefield High School. In 1940, Dewey enrolled in the Civilian Conservation Corps and was honorably discharged in 1942. DULUTH, Minn. - Patricia E. Ekmark, 82, of Hurley, died Monday, May 2, 2022, in Duluth, Minnesota at St. Mary's-Essentia Health, where she was undergoing rehabilitation from major back surgery. She was born July 13, 1939, in Ironwood, Michigan, the daughter of the late Earl Shouldice and Esther Bodas. She graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1957.
