HURLEY - Hundreds of all-terrain vehicles will make their way to Iron County this weekend for the 29th annual Memorial Day Weekend ATV Rally. Temperatures are expected to be in the mid-to-upper 70s, with sunshine in the forecast all weekend. "We are going to have great weather, and we're really excited," said Tina Brunell, executive director of the Mercer Area Chamber of Commerce. IRONWOOD - Friends of the Miners Memorial Heritage Park gave a tour to around 30 graduate students and faculty members from the University of Wisconsin-Madison's Center for Culture, History and Environment on Tuesday. For the past eight years the center has taken annual trips to various destinations that reflect each year's theme. IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP - Sixth graders are braving the wilderness this week in the annual Camp Superior experience at Little Girl's Point on Lake Superior. A total of 110 students from the Ironwood, All Saints Catholic Academy, Bessemer and Wakefield-Marensico school districts are making the annual trip to the Extension camp. Ironwood and All Saints students stayed at the camp Monday afternoon through Wednesday morning, while Bessemer and W-M students arrived Wednesday and will stay through Friday... Full story

IRONWOOD - Ironwood's coldest winter in 100 years continued into April, with temperatures for the month nearly 6 degrees below normal. April 2014 in Ironwood enters the weather statistic books as the ninth coldest on record, according to Kevin Crupi, of the National Weather Service office in Marquette. Records date to 1901. "For the fifth month in a row, a cold northwest flow of Canadian air dominated the Upper Great Lakes," Crupi said in his monthly summary. The combined December through April... Full story
