Vargovich Sr., "Vargy," age 69, left this world surrounded by his loving family at home after a long and courageous battle with cancer.     MERCER, Wis. - Mercer eighth graders got the opportunity to visit three floating loon nest platforms Thursday as part of an Iron County Land and Water Conservation Department project. The students canoed out to nesting platforms located on three lakes - Fox, Deer and Grand Portage - in the Mercer area as part of the Loon and Lake project.     SAXON, Wis. - The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources' brown trout stocking program shifted to Saxon Harbor on Thursday. Trucks from the DNR's Brule Fish Hatchery arrived around noon with 25,000 browns that were released into the harbor and Lake Superior.     HURLEY — Hurley waited six years to win another regional title. The Midgets only needed 4.5 innings — in the entire tournament — to break that drought and return to sectionals for the first time since 2010. The Midgets beat Drummond 11-0 in Thursday's WIAA Division 4 regional final. The top-seeded Midgets got a first-round bye and then advanced through the semifinal when No. 5 Washburn forfeited due to a class trip.
