  • Forestry committee decides against changes to stewardship grant application

    HURLEY - The Iron County Forestry and Parks Committee decided against altering its grant application seeking funds for improvements to the county's campground at the Lake of the Falls park so that all-terrain vehicles could continue to access the park.     IRONWOOD — Relay for Life is set to begin at Gogebic Community College on Saturday, July 25. As part of the American Cancer Society, Relay for Life is the organization’s biggest fundraising event. More than just a relay, the Relay is a time to unite as a community, recognize those who’ve been touched by cancer and remember those who lost the battle, according to an ACS spokesman.     WHITE PINE, Mich. — Michael “Mike” Brook Sanders, of White Pine, passed away suddenly on July 9, 2015, in Iron Mountain. Mike was born in Framingham, Mass., to Neil and Catherine (Maloney) Sanders. He graduated from Abington Senior High School, located outside of Philadelphia, Pa., in 1966. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served as a Chinese linguist. His duty stations included Okinawa and Udorn, Thailand. He was honorably discharged in 1970.
