  • Work on extending Gateway Trail to Bessemer continues

    IRONWOOD - As residents continue to use the Western Gateway Trail in Ironwood, work continues to extend the popular trail into Bessemer. The first section of the trail runs from the Montreal River to Ironwood's eastern city limit, with the next section extending to Bessemer's Moore Street.     HURLEY - Folks of all ages experienced life before the turn of 20th century during Heritage Day Friday, presented by the Iron County Historical Society at its museum in Hurley. The historical society is marking its 50th anniversary this year and celebrated with a slate of activities this past week, helping begin the annual Iron County Heritage Festival.   • Camp Josh receives food plot funding

    ONTONAGON — The state of Michigan has awarded Camp Josh a grant under the Upper Peninsula Deer Habitat Improvement Partnership Initiative. Under the partnership agreement, Camp Josh will construct a 3.4-acre food plot on the 40-acre parcel that it owns on the LP Walsh road in Ontonagon Township. The state will fund $4,876 and Camp Josh will fund $3,260 of the $8,136 project cost.
