Ellen was born Sept. 26, 1923, in Ironwood, the daughter of George and Senia (Nasi) Lassila. She married Matt H. Kangas who preceded her in death on March 5, 1987. Gogebic County saw 25.6 percent of voters participate in the election, while 30 percent of registered Ontonagon voters cast ballots in that county.
