    IRONWOOD - State Representative Scott Dianda, D-Calumet, spoke Tuesday evening at the Memorial Building in Ironwood about energy in the U.P. and the future of the area based on energy types. Ironwood was the last of three stops this week in the U.P. to discuss energy reliability and the best price possible for the energy. He also spoke with a groups in Houghton and Marquette.     IRONWOOD - Gogebic Community College was filled with the sounds and sights of students, faculty and staff on campus Tuesday as the fall term began this week. Welcome signs, emblazoned with the college's new forest green logo, greeted students around campus and around town. Sophomore Darroel Pittman roamed the halls Tuesday afternoon on his way to class.   • 15 mph speed limit proposed for Miners Park ATV trail

    IRONWOOD — A representative of the local Western U.P. Snow Shakers assured the Ironwood City Commission Monday that if an all-terrain vehicle trail is opened in the Miners Memorial Heritage Park, it will not be a “scramble area.” Rob Youngberg, speaking for the group that was previously called the Gogebic Range Trail Authority, said a 15 mph speed limit would be strictly followed by the riders.     HURLEY, Wis. - Stephen J. "Steve" Buchko, 92, of Ironwood, Mich., died Monday, Aug. 24, 2015, at Villa Maria Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hurley. He was born March 25, 1923, in Ironwood, son of the late Stephen and Anna (Lajcak) Buchko, and attended A.L. Norrie Grade School and Luther L. Wright High School. He entered the U.S. Army on Jan. 18, 1943, serving as a dental technician in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operations during World War II, and was honorably discharged on Jan. 7,... Full story

    DURHAM, N.C. — Robert M. Hawley, 66, of Supply, N.C., died Saturday, Aug. 15, 2015, at Duke University Hospital in Durham after a long bout with heart disease. Bob was born Dec. 18, 1948, in Ogdensburg, N.Y., and later graduated from the University of South Carolina and spent many years as an independent businessman in the Myrtle Beach, S.C., area.
