    ASHLAND, Wis. - Ironwood sophomore Nick Niemi's goal for this season is to win the Division 2 U.P. Finals in October. If Thursday is any indication, that's a realistic goal. The top two runners, Ashland's Miller twins, Maury and Walker, were the top finishers at Thursday's Ashland Invitational. That's no surprise.     IRONWOOD - Sunny skies welcomed the beginning of the Gogebic County Fair Thursday. During the afternoon, children and the young in heart rode carnival rides and played games in the midway. While the American flag was being raised, Alyssa Schwab, of Ironwood, sang the Star Spangled Banner alongside a color guard.   • Bidding process under way for Point storm repair work

    BESSEMER — Bids will be received by the end of next week for some of the numerous projects necessary to repair the Little Girl’s Point area following the July 11-12 storm. Gogebic County Road Commission Manager-Engineer Darren Pionk spoke to the county board of commissioners on Wednesday about the bid process and excessive work that lies ahead. Weather permitting, Pionk said work should begin this fall. County board chair Joe Bonovetz, of Bessemer, suggested an invitation bid only process, if possible, to get the projects under way.
