IRONWOOD - The Ironwood Area Schools Board of Education approved spending $21,000 on new playground equipment and installing old playground equipment during a meeting Monday. BESSEMER - The Bessemer City Council heard a presentation at its meeting Monday from Jim Loeper, Gogebic County emergency management and 911 coordinator, regarding the countywide 911 operating surcharge proposal on the Nov. 4 election ballot. IRONWOOD -The Gogebic County 4H Market Animal Club held a dinner and silent auction fundraiser Sunday evening at the Elk & Hound to raise money to support the 4H club events throughout the year, including covering the kids' passes to the county fair and premiums. The kids of the club, along with the help of mostly parents and a few community members, hosted the fundraiser by preparing a dinner that the community could purchase, either as a sit-down or to-go meal. APPLETON, Wis. - Mario John Ravanelli, 89, of Appleton, formerly of Sanders Road, Ramsay, Mich., passed away Sunday, Oct. 19, 2014, at Willow Lane Assisted Living in Appleton, after a short stay. His elder years became difficult and he is now at peace. IRONWOOD, Mich. — James M. “Boomer” McRae, 58, of Ironwood, died unexpectedly on Thursday, Oct. 16, 2014, in Ironwood. He was born June 3, 1956, in Bessemer Township, son of the late John D. and Doris (Nelson) McRae. Boomer attended Ironwood schools, graduating from the Luther L. Wright High School with the class of 1974. He attended Gogebic Community College, where he received his associate degree. ONTONAGON, Mich. — Sally Pentti, 97, of Trout Creek, passed away Sunday, Oct. 19, 2014, at Aspirus Ontonagon Hospital’s Long-Term Care Unit. She was a member of the New Evangelical Lutheran Church of Trout Creek and worked for the U.S. Forest Service in Watersmeet for many years at tree planting.
