The Hurley School Board voted Monday evening to remove the Midgets as the school mascot and directed the administration to rebrand the school by the beginning of next school year.     HANCOCK, Mich. - Bonnie Jean (Champion) Kukkonen of Hancock went home to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Jan. 15, 2019. She died unexpectedly in Bali, Indonesia, of a massive heart attack. She was born in Ironwood, a daughter of the late Bill and Jean Champion, and graduated from Luther L Wright High School in 1964.     LAKE WYLIE, S.C. — Eugene Walter Thomas, 88, of Lake Wylie, passed away Jan. 20, 2019, at the Lake Wylie Assisted Living Center. Mr. Thomas was born May 8, 1930, in Ironwood, Mich., to the late Percy and Elizabeth (Swanstrom) Thomas. He is survived by his wife, Florence (Niemi) Thomas; sons, Paul Thomas and Jim Thomas; daughter, Debra Thomas; and three grandchildren, Jackson, Aiden and Donovan Thomas.
