  • Snowfall here draws widespread interest

    HURLEY - There was quite a bit of interest across the country in the Gogebic Range's snowstorm that ended early Wednesday morning, then later rekindled. Up to two feet of snow fell across the Gogebic Range, whipped into drifts by strong winds.     IRONWOOD — Students, faculty, staff and area residents attended the annual Veterans Day program at Luther L. Wright School in Ironwood on Wednesday. The program, originally scheduled for Tuesday, was delayed because of a snowstorm causing school to be canceled.     Dear Editor, November is National Adoption Month. More than 3,000 children in the state of Michigan are in foster care waiting for permanent, loving families. Each year approximately 14,000 children are in foster care and approximately 3,000 of these children will become legally free for adoption. Another 300 children are waiting with no identified families for adoption.     PLYMOUTH, Minn - Stanley W. "Sonny" Borowiec, 62, of Plymouth, and a native of Ironwood, Mich., died unexpectedly Sunday, Oct. 26, 2014, in his home. He was born Dec. 29, 1951, in Ironwood, son of the late Stanley Borowiec and Betty Pearson, and attended Luther L. Wright High School.     MINOCQUA, Wis. — Doris L Thompson, age 88, of Hurley, died Sunday, Nov. 9, 2014, in Minocqua. She was born Dec. 30, 1925, in Ironwood, daughter of the late James and Clara (Guck) Jenkin. Doris worked in area restaurants and catered. She also worked for the Hurley Senior Center. On April 10, 1948, she was united in marriage with Tom T. Thompson at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Ironwood by Father Moriarty. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Ironwood. In her later years, she loved her card games and bingo.
