    By IAN MINIELLY [email protected] IRONWOOD - This year's Red Kettle drive by volunteers for the Salvation Army is being conducted at Walgreens in Ironwood. Jaime Stiffarm, involved with the drive for the past 18 years, said the Salvation Army has a contract with Walgreens nationwide to host red kettles and bell ringers through the holidays. According to Stiffarm, the bell ringers will be present at Walgreens from 9-6 p.m. daily until Christmas Eve, when they stop ringing at 3 p.m....

    BESSEMER — The Gogebic County Board of Commissioners was informed this week that the Superior Watershed Partnership has received $3 million in state and federal funding to provide heating and electrical assistance for low income families in all 15 counties of the Upper Peninsula. Funding is being provided through the Michigan Energy Assistance Program, according to Carl Lindquist, executive director of SWP.     BESSEMER — The Gogebic County Sheriff’s Department released the name of the 65-year-old woman whose body was recovered near Rainbow Falls at Black River Harbor on Wednesday. Candace Zahn Cain, of Woodruff, is thought to have entered the water in the vicinity of Copper Peak, miles upstream on the Black River, which allowed the search teams to focus on areas downstream from there to the harbor.   • Eugene 'Red' D'Antonio

    WAUSAU, Wis. - Eugene "Red" D'Antonio, 81, long-time Ironwood businessman, passed away on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 23, 2017, in Wausau. He was born Oct. 22, 1936, at the Newport Hospital in Ironwood, the son of the late Alexander "Bulltone" and Josephine (Evangelisto) D'Antonio. Red attended Ironwood and Wakefield Schools. He served in the U.S. Air Force. He was employed at the Bessemer Creamery as a truck driver/milkman. Red was also employed by Ketola Logging and Schult Mobile Homes.... Full story
