Judy Kunath

MINOCQUA, Wis. — Judy Kunath, 73, of Mercer, died, Tuesday, March 19, 2013 in Minocqua.

She was born Feb. 6, 1940, in Tampa, Fla., daughter of the late Lloyd and Elsie (Sperberg) Felker. She attended Milwaukee schools and graduated from Riverside High High School in Milwaukee with the class of 1957. Judy then attended Columbia School of Nursing, graduating in 1960.

She was employed at Clintonville Community Hospital. In Woodruff, she was head nurse of the emergency department at Howard Young Medical Center. Judy was also the Iron County Public Health nurse and director for many years until retirement.

She was very active in the community as a member of the Mercer Public Library, a painting group in Manitowish Waters, and as a volunteer for the Wildlife and Wetlands Club. She volunteered at Mercer Loon Day and was a member of the Manitowish Waters Community Presbyterian Church. She loved to read, knit and especially loved raising and showing Appaloosa horses in her Clintonville days.

On Oct. 29, 1960, she was married in Milwaukee to Jack A.C. Kunath at the Summerfield Methodist Church by Rev. F.G. McKensie. Jack preceded her in death on March 17, 2008.

She is survived by sons, Clay Kunath and Karl Kunath; daughters, Ellen (Kevin) Spatt and Beth (Douglas) Wolma; five grandchildren, Nicolas Spatt, Jamie Spatt, Veronika Kunath (and her mother Malgorzata), Jessica Wolma and Bryce Wolma; a brother, Richard (Jean) Felker; and nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at the Manitowish Waters Community Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, March 26, at 11 a.m. Rev. Chips Paulson will officiate.

Judy’s family will receive relatives and friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Tuesday.

Memorial contributions are preferred to the Mercer Public Library in lieu of flowers.

Range Funeral Service and Crematory of Hurley and Ironwood is in charge of arrangements.
