IRONWOOD — Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder kicks off a two-day tour of the Upper Peninsula Monday, beginning with a stop in Ironwood.
Snyder will help dedicate the Western Gateway to Pure Michigan trailhead at Depot Park in downtown Ironwood at 9 a.m. Monday. The park is at the intersection of Suffolk and Lowell streets.
Also in Ironwood, Snyder will attend a presentation on the Orvana Copperwood mine project at Orvana’s offices on Lake Road in Ironwood at 9:35 a.m.
Immediately following the presentation, Snyder will tour the mine site at 10:15 a.m. The closest intersection to the site is South Boundary Road and Forest Trail 117 in Wakefield Township.
After leaving Ironwood, Snyder heads to Houghton to tour the Michigan Technological University SmartZone facility and participate in a round-table discussion at the location in honor of the SmartZone’s 10th anniversary.
U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., will also attend the event in Houghton.
Snyder then heads to Hancock to participate in a town hall meeting at Finlandia University.
On Tuesday, Snyder will help dedicate the Brockway Mountain Drive in Copper Harbor before dedicating a trail in Negaunee.
The tour ends with Snyder participating in a town hall meeting in the Negaunee Senior Center.
