Thanks for a great summer

School is back in session, footballs are flying through the air, a tinge of color is appearing amongst the leaves and temperatures are beginning to dip — all sure signs of fall.

But before we get too far down the autumnal road, we say thank you to all those who worked so hard putting on a vast variety of community events this past summer.

The rear-view mirror is full of Fourth of July activities, county fairs and other events that allowed the community to gather and celebrate.

Festival Ironwood drew good-sized crowds to a newly-renovated Depot Park. The Iron County Heritage Festival provided a series of fine events. Mercer’s Loon Day, Hurley’s Festivale Italiano and Ontonagon’s Labor Fest kept the summer rolling with large crowds and plenty of fun.

The summer’s events are also filled with homecomings and reunions. Many return to see family and friends, and take in a bit of Northwoods hospitality displayed in spades in these local events.

But again, none of this would happen without the countless hours of planning and action by throngs of volunteers.

There are community events ahead on calendar this fall and heading into the winter — Ewen’s Log Jamboree, Bessemer’s Pumpkinfest and Ironwood’s Jack Frost Parade to name a few — and every event is important, but we take this opportunity to say thanks for a great summer.
